The calculation may well 'work' but then again a Max will 'work' to varying degrees of efficiency with anything from a 145 to a 175 jet, indeed it will 'work' with no main jet in the carb at all.
To 'work' properly there are a vast number of varibles within the carb that will effect how efficiently it 'works'.
The neat trick is bringing all of the varibles together which is exactly what can be done using the jettech program, provided you have correctly calibrated the software.
The example you gave in the link will get you in the reigon of the correct air fuel ratio BUT that said it work but you may never know just how much valuble performance you are possibly wasteing.
I hope to be back racing regularly again next season so it would suit me if no one bothered with jetting calculators, should make winning a much simpler task for me.
