Tom, the route to go will depend to some extent on how you do in your GCSE's which are still ahead of you. The good thing is you are thinking about this well in advance. Also think about what you actually want to do. i.e do you want to spanner a racing car or do you want to be involved in the design of.

If you achieve good results in maths and physics at GCSE then you should consider doing A levels in those subjects and that will give you the opportunity to apply for University Degree course in Engineering. Several Universities now do degrees specifically tailored to motorsport and as part of the course you can get work experience with F1 teams.

If you don't have the academic capabilities to do A levels then all is not lost. Technical Colleges offer lots of engineering type courses and these too can get you enough UCAS points to get onto a University course.

The key thing is to continue in education to at least 18 and that's when lots of opportunities are presented to you.
