Ermm......

1) unless you were WILDLY out.... by about 10 cms..... it won't make it undrivable for a fairly 'newbie'..... just unpleasant and different on left corners compared to right corners!

2) You may not have needed to replace the track rod: many can be straightended once or twice.

3) If the handling was THAT dire..... you may have bent something else as well.....

4) or.... finally...... it MIGHT swap ends VERY easily if you have the tracking set badly! A great deal of 'toe-out' WILL make the steering over-reactive and that MIGHT make him swap ends repeatedly!
