It's not easy to measure the centre of the axle. It also relies on the fact that you axle has been mounted accurately and has not moved (unless you simply measure halfway BETWEEN the bearing hangers). It's better to measure the distances diagonally to a fixed point on the chassis where it MEETS the axle... e.g. one of the bolts of the bearing hanger or the leading edge of the of the hanger or somewhere similar.

As I said previously, also measure from the some points but, this time, the distances between the king pin bolts and the hanger on the SAME sides, as well as the diagonals.

Unless the chassis is cracked (a possiblilty) then faults should show up in accurate measurements.
