Ditch, you have accurately described the tool designed for removing the sprocker from the old type Rotax clutch drums but this is of no use on the new type. The chain method does work to a degree but subborn ones still need the specific tool for the vice which has a sprocker shaped hole in it. Another trick is to have the face of a 32mm socket machined flat so that you get a full face contact on the thin nut by removing the lead you find on most large sockets.
