Wes,Ditch & Colin, thanks for your replies.
Correct drivers are installed,port is assigned & settings are assigned automatically by the software. The SP1v4 interface unit appears to work ok and displays flywheel rpm. when the software is booted it displays "connected" initially and then "disconnected".
The spanish manufacturer says it is probably an unsuitable usb/serial lead hence my original question regarding this lead. Any suggestions?
