Hi mattman,

First of all, your question isn't dumb: we all learn by experiennce and asking, so don't be afraid to ask!

The advice given above is a good starting point and talking to other Cadet Dads in the pits will help even more.
But if you ask 10 people about tyre pressures, be prepared to get at least 10 different answers!

It's really what suits the kart and driver on the day and at any particular circuit.
Time "in seat" is the best teacher of all.
