Impartiality of Scrutineers
We have, on occasion, reminded scrutineers of the need to remain impartial and to be seen to be neutral. There are
some scrutineers who, unsurprisingly work in the motor trade. It is thus possible that a scrutineer may be presented
with a car in which he has an interest. He may have carried out work on the car or perhaps supplied parts, etc. Should
this happen then you pass the car over to one of your colleagues who has no interest in the vehicle. Exactly the same if
the competitor is related to you, then pass the car over to a fellow scrutineer.
Exactly the same thinking follows any situation where it can be suggested that a scrutineer has a vested interest be it
through customer association, personal relationship or potential commercial interest. It is not only being unbiased,
independent and not taking commercial advantage of your position it is also about being seen to be fair, unbiased,
independent and not taking commercial advantage.
