Chad really DOES know what he's talking about....

However, for precision.... a load of complete TWADDLE is talked about axle hardness. They SHOULD be talking about 'stiffness' as you say but you also need to think about the effect on ROTATING axle which gives stiffness in itself.

Chad will also assure you that almost no matter WHAT you do to the steel (different alloys, different hardening techiques, etc.) all steels have STUNNINGLY similar 'stiffness ratings'... so YES... it's the wall thickness that matters..... and some experts will tell you not even THAT affects the handling, much!
