Leaning (either way) SHOULD not be necessary, as long as the kart is set up correctly for the conditiond. However, if the conditions change mid-race (which they can do easily in endurance racing) then leaning (either way, depending on how the conditions have changed) can help improve the handling.
Set the kart up correctly in the first place and, in sprint racing, you should not be moving about in it at all.......
