Interesting question of charging or not.

But for our part, when not in use the transponder is kept in it's cradle.

I understand (according to the instructions) this blocks transmissions and discharges the unit at a rate intended by design.
Once a week, racing or not, the unit is charged.

Never yet been a problem.
