I'm sure you will get some good advice on this forum but have you searched on motor sport photography on Google?

Nothing to do with me but looked as if it could be of interest. Also worth checking your local liobrary for a book on sports photography as it would be almost certain to have a chapter or two on equipment.Otherwise spend a few Ł at Amazon.

A digital SLR with a decent size SD card would be your best bet as you could then take hundreds of pictures and select your best ones. With a film camera you can not see the results until the film is developed and while you are changing films you can miss the `shot of the day'.

Also worth checking with shops like Jessops as they used to offer a no quibble 30 day refund subject to equipment not being damaged. This could allow you to try out a couple of different lenses.
