To be honest, the chassis side of it isn't a big selling point anymore since CIK chassis can be used in Blue and now TKM anyway.

On the engine side, what puts me off, is the need for sealed engines. This system can easily end up with rebuild prices that would be unsustainable in an open market. Blue rebuilds are cheaper, and if you're practical you can do them yourself to make a bigger saving. Warranties are nice, but if you're trying to be really competitive you're going to want to be changing pistons occassionally, which then becomes really expensive sending it back to the rebuilder on a regular basis.

Rotax Max is more a victim of its own success than anything else, and due to the extreme popularilty prices can go up and up. Engines are very expensive, rebuild are expensive, parts are expensive. People can end up paying outrageous prices for that “magic” engine.

I am referring mainly to CLUB level here, it just seems wrong that a used KF engine is almost half the price of a Rotax... Why would I pay that?

I'm not saying that I have all the answers here, but it does seem that a more open class (both for rebuilds and manufacturers) would have forced Rotax to have addressed some of the problems with Max (such as the clutches) more quickly and more cheaply.

Back on topic, personally I'm currently debating between Blue and KF Clubman.
