I simply wish we had the choice, here it's all or nothing. Until they reach 14, every class even regionally is dominated by out and out cheque book racing and sophisticated cheating.

We have raced at National level in both MSA and FFSA(French) championships. Effectively we have topped out at what we can afford and educationally I feel that balanced development has started to suffer from the over competitive nature of cadet age karting anyway.

For example although my son is quite capable of undertaking most tasks on the kart himself, I got to the point of not letting him experiment simply because too much was at stake. In the year he was running as potential French championship I found myself stopping him doing other activities simply because of the risk of injuring himself and putting him out of the kart. This is clearly crazy, in hindsight. But the amount of money invested made it seem nessasary.

The original concept for us of starting karting was to solve educational and mild behavioural problems. This has succeeded beyond all expectation and the competitive nature of karting has crossed over into his school life and he is now very much fulfilling his potential.

He now accepts that F1 is not going to happen and instead aims to move into the field of Aeronautical Engineering. The advantages to him of the NATSKA formula would be enormous, if only....................
