When he said in a standard way, he didn't mean in a standard position. There is a seat fitting guide that most chassis manufacturers will supply (I know Arrow do), and there is a certain measurement from top/back of seat to the floor, and the bottom of the seat to the floor. This will be their standard fitting.

Now, bear in mind though, the standard seat "position" might be right for 99% of drivers, but it might not suit YOU. You have to be comfortable in the kart, and if you drive it and you aren't comfortable, move it to suit.
