It’s good to see some clarification detailed in “Motorsports Now – Rule Changes” albeit within the regs for car racing – Track Regulations;

1. Drivers must use the track at all times.

2. The white lines defining the track are considered to be part of the track, but the kerbs are not.

3. A driver will be judged to have left the track if no part of the ‘car’ remains in contact with the track.

It appears that it is quite permissible to use not only the kerbs but also the grass behind them, to a distance of say 1399mm outside the white line which defines the track boundary.
