Wet setup - Rotax Minimax, Rye House

Being relatively new at this we've never bothered to change our axle from hard.
Yeah yeah yeah, test test test I know, but, as a general rule of thumb, would you go for a softer axle in the wet?

Any tips on how to remove/replace the axle?
