Many people seem to have forgotten why painting helmets was STRONGLY opposed? SDMinus gives a PERFECT example.....

SDMinus has painted his helmet..

I, too, have an old helmet but it has landed on Kimbolton main staight and was dragged along the ground sheering the 'gel coat' and digging into the fibres. In two places, the fibres have been worn through. Clearly, that helmet is now COMPLETELY unsafe.

However, were I an idiot (!), I might just fill (Isopon) the gouges and cracks, rub it down and have a 'paint job' done on it.....

How does a scrutineer tell if my helmet is as safe as SDMinus's helmet?
