Yup - I would suggest a bent column. Does it only sometimes catch the tank when turning (eg at it's lowest point in the rotation)

You can take it off the kart and try to staighten it but it is normally easier to buy a new one and keep the other as a spare - they do bend quite a bit when you are starting out and finding limits.
