S1 has announced that Dunlop will provide the first 25 KF1 competitors with a free set of race tyres per round for the winter series and the 2010 Championship on the grounds that the number of entries held up this year and that participation 'in karting' has been good unlike other forms of motorsport.

I'm not knocking anything done at grass-roots level because anything is welcomed but the number of KF1 entries this year compared with the final points table last year is about ONE and down considerably when compared with previous years when it was Formula A.

So well done Dunlop or any manufacturer/sponsor particularly at a time when cost is a key issue but a) will this make any material difference to the numbers doing KF1 in the UK next year? and b) will other sponsors follow suit albeit for other more 'deserving' classes where the grids are higher and need to continue to attract newcomers to the sport?
