'After the finals the front six engines were dismantled and checked, 4,5, and 6 at the track and the front three at Weymouth'
Firstly in reply to all the engines being found legal, we were 5th in the grande finals of formula blue at GYG and were found to be non-complient due to the incorrect supply and us not realising that everybody competing in this class, buying a carb or kit have to have the equipment to measure and keep checking the inlet spring to within 0.2mm before racing. Tillitson have confirmed to us that unless the kits or carbs are supplied direct from Iame, not from themselves or traders, they cannot guarantee the tolerances, especially the spring length. However they can supply 6 DIFFERENT inlet springs with different tensions that will pass the VERY SILLY spring length rule.
Also on the same day, a junior was found to have the wrong length spring and found to be non-complient. 6 carbs were checked on the day, 2 were non complient, that makes it 1/3 of the carbs checked on that day, were non complient. To us the rule seriously needs looking at, along side some of the other silly rules, like non downloadable data loggers, battery box (safety issue) etc etc.
We have really enjoyed racing in this class, and also do super one on a very tight budget, and silly rules like this, only pushes people away from a class, which in itself could be dominant in the uk.
