Not to mention the MSA club at Teesside as well (3rd Sunday).
You should visit the race meetings and see for yourself what is popular and interests you. Also get to talk to a few drivers and mechanics and get a flavor of costs etc (saying that you will get a variety of views even within one single class!)
Prokartng is probably the most popular at present because of the ease of mainenance and overall running cost and there is excellent grids at Karting North East in Sunderland (35 last month but it has been as high as 42 as I recall). the class itself is split into 2 (albeit race as one grid) being Clunman and Elite. Racing i good and the racing meeting is very well run with good officials, scrutineering pre and post race etc.
It has been a few years since I have been to the Teesside Saturday evening/night event but it was a good night out, great circuit and is a little more relaxed. Big event comming up later this month is the British 24 hour - this is a sight to see with huge grid of hire and owner driver teams (some of the top teams in the UK have entered).
I suppose it all depends what you are looking to do budget wise. Email me at r.graeme.macfarlane@virgin.net and I will be happy to talk you through what to expect to spend to both get started and running thereafter.
