It sounds a lot like what happens to a PSP. When a PSP is updating and you turn it off it "Bricks" itself. So when you turn it on you get a black screen and it turns itself off. You'll need to take it to a dealer, or maybe even send it back to the manufacturer so they can re-write the flash chip or what ever it uses. Then you'll probably need to update it all over again, unless they put the latest firmware on there for you.
