I am under the impression that the later 2006 chassis had the holes as you suggest rather than slots. This is as the same as the Tony EVS X & RR offering the 3 position ride height setting as opposed to the previous 2 position ones with the slot. An additional change to the carrier apart from the re spacing of the mounting holes is that the base of the carrier was machined to allow the carrier to drop to the low position (high ride height) without fouling the chassis rail.
So you are not going mad you simply need carriers from a Tony Racer EV available from Strawberry.
