yes you can do this as we were going to do it for our karts but after looking into it further...we realised that the long lengths of tube that were to be used (assuming you would buy long lengths aswell) will actually be bent due to when being handeled bowing....will not be visible to the eye but they will be therefore when you cut your 1040 section off it may be slightly 'bowed'. the only way to get round it would be to buy it in shorter length but then i couldn't really see you saving much compared to buy the 'real' thing.
