Hi-just gone through the same thing. Take a look at Demon Tweeks website-they have a section devoted to karting helmets.

I got a Simpson helmet (looks a bit like the Stig's but black). It has to be Snell SA2005 rated from 2010 for MSA events. Price-wise your looking around Ł300 for starters for a decent, properly rated helmet.
