The data isn't meaningless because the alloys are upward of 85% of the metal anyway. The alloying elements used in both are usually roughly similar, albeit in different addition levels for various alloys.

I don't think itpro or anyone else thought that wheels were made of the pure element, can you imagine how long winded it would be to say 'magnesium alloy rims' all the time, instead of 'Mag rims'?

Wheels are not singly in compression or tension, they are subjected to various compressional, tensional, and torsional stresses, often all at the same time especially when cornering.

One thing I have found out from my own experience though is that you can sit for hours trying to work out various scenarios, but they will almost always be wrong when you actually get out there and test!
