Hi Andrew,

Few years ago we adapted one of our old Air-cooled ICA set up's with hand controls we made up for a girl who broke her back racing motorcross.

We basically mounted a master cylinder on the steering wheel & bought some hand controls from ebay which mounted behind the steering wheel & you pull the right lever for the throttle & the left one for the brake. She got on ok but I dont think you could ever be quick with it, just a bit of fun.

I'll take some pictures as the karts still sits in the garage at my parents to give you an idea.

Recently I looked in to this again for someone else as a guy who raced motox broke his back & wants to get involved again in some kind of motorsport.

After trawling through google I found an article on this website from 2006 where CRG made a proper steering wheel with a throttle like you find on motorbikes. I spoke to Alan Turney @ TAL-KO (UK CRG IMPORTER) who was very helpful. Said he has never sold 1 in the UK. The price was approx £700 + VAT & they did NOT have 1 to try before buying.

If you look here.... (ABOUT 25 ARTICLES DOWN)

INFO:

The big news from Italian kart manufacturer CRG concerns their new steering wheel that offers drivers the possibility of using the brake and
accelerator via the steering wheel, without the need to take either hand off the wheel at any time.
Features include:
* removable aluminium steering wheel with Alcantara covering
* Brembo radial pump (self adjusting system)
* a fast reacting 'motorcycle type' hand throttle
* ability to swap over the controls
The steering wheel is available with or without a data logger system.

TITLE: Disabled Driver Steering Wheel   (04/12)

In KF1 & KF2 they use hand control for the front brakes & sure you could adapt this to use the rear brake as well?????? Just got to sort the throttle out on the steering wheel some how.

Hope this helps & if you need any other info or help let me know.

Regards

Kelvyn
