it could be my imagination but I can almost sense an exclamation mark missing from that last sentence? (!)

But as I said, was it because he started and therefore came off or because he didn't start. If it's the latter then there aren't too many reasons/scenarios why that would happen. I mean, Ican't imagine you'd be late to the grid as to get locked out.
