x1 is the correct setting. Do make sure the RPM wire is coiled around the spark plug lead a few times to get a good connection. The black plastic clip that comes with it, can sometimes hold the RPM wire away from the lead.

Also make sure it's not running through or right next to the coil pack. I've seen that affect it before.
