My lad has raced a couple times in europe and they dealt with the problem by having observers inside and outside of the track at the acceleration zone. The drivers are told at their briefing that they had to leave at least half a metre between them and the kart in front. Anyone not doing this throughout the zone is given a 10sec time penalty. The transponders are checked to ensure that the poleman crosses the start line in first place or P2 gets a 10 sec time penalty.
This will spread the grid out as it crosses the line and enters the first corner, giving all drivers a little more wriggle room.
The main cause of first corner incidents, excepting the odd nutter, is usually that the whole grid is completely loaded as is enters the acceleration zone.
