We are told that bearing grease is 'high' on a couple of 'functions': lubrication plus a HUGE degree of physical resistance to being 'squeezed out' of a joint. Secondly, it is good at retaining it's 'consistency at high temps and returing to cool again.

If you were making a grease which we'll call 'vaseline'... why would you engineer 'vaseline' to be good at 'squeeze resistance' or 'temp change tolerance'?

Basically, you WOULDN'T!

Finally, if the logic that 'all greases are basically the same' DOES turn out to be correct (as implied by Harv) then why NOT use axle grease for all the jobs that you would NORMALLY use Vaseline....? That....I would simply LOVE to watch......!

This is the same discussion as those who claimed that WD40 could be used as a bearing oil. THAT little idea was destroyed by a 'lubicant engineer' who demolished that concept on this web site.

Put simply, use the RIGHT STUFF.... don't GUESS!

But..... it' YOUR axle and it's YOUR choice!
