I towed a 400kg trailer with a Passat 140 bhp estate, normally 45-50 mpg with trailer 35-40mpg.

The trailer was custom made and was the same width as the car and lower than the rear tailgate so was reasonably aerodynamic. It towed very well and never snaked or weaved regardless of speed or wind. Many a time I forgot it was on the back it towed that well.

Speed made a big difference in mpg as a steady 60 on the motorway was the best, normal A roads it got down to mid 30's.

Just got a van now instead as I was fed up with being stuck in the middle lane on motorways and 60 mph speed restriction.
