"any driver who crossed the start line less than 0.5secs behind the driver in front"

Making the gap between karts somewhere between 22 feet (5 kart lengths) and 44 feet, assuming the real speed across the line is between 30 and 60mph.

Imagine being on the back of a grid of 30 at Clay, with a lap time of around 35 seconds. The leaders would be going down Sturmey Straight before the last row had legitimately crossed the line.

What's more, I think it would creat a whole new level of difficulty. Did you get closer to the Kart in front because you are a bad judge of distance or because you didn't see that the kart in front lifted momentarily, and should you be in the office because of it?
