Can somebody PLEASE help me. I'm pulling my hair out here... My original starter motor cracked away from its casing last Sunday. I changed it for a refurbished one which worked fine for about 5 minutes, until Max decided to put the kart backwards through a deep puddle. Then it just wouldn't crank over. I checked all the switches etc and was getting a good 12.5v at the starter motor, but it just wouldn't turn over. I took the motor out, earthed it against the engine and it spun up ok. I put my finger into the hole where the starter motor goes and could freely move the cog it drives. When I put the starter motor back it wouldn't work. Checked for earth continuity and it seemed fine, less than 0.3ohms. Checked to see if it was drawing current from the battery but it wasn't. Changed the battery for a new one. no difference. By whacking the motor with a hammer whilst trying to start it fired up, and we spent the rest of the day at Rye having to do this everytime Max came into the pits. I assumed it was something to do with a wet wiring loom. Anyway, after leaving it to dry out until today, it was still giving the same problem. I came to the conclusion it was a "lazy" starter motor and swapped it for another from the shop at Rye. Plugged it into the kart and guess what.....SAME PROBLEM... I wired a seperate earth strap to the starter motor casing - no difference. Anybody got any ideas please???
