The only difference I have found is around 5p per litre!.
The max compression ratio is so low any Octane increase will have little effect.
The ref to being illegal is that MSA regs require pump fuel for all classes unless the specified within the specific championship regs such as Super One. Until last year the MSA regs used to state a specific BS number to be used that related to ordinary unleaded however this was amended to include super unleaded.
