Hi, As DavyBoy says take a look at the Retro Racing group and also http://groups.msn.com/historicclassickartclubforgreatbritain
Depending if you want to display (pre 1980) or race (pre 1983), take a look at the outfits being used and come along to some of the events. 60's and 70's karts can be expensive to buy and really expensive to put back to original condition. Most people into Historics, had karts years ago and are recreating past outfits. Which makes it easier in some ways to decide what to get and also helps for restoration. If you are new to karting, you will have to do a lot of research before you buy something (to make sure it is of the correct age). Then you have the challenge of finding all the correct bits and doing the restoration. If you are really lucky you may drop on something that just needs painting, chroming and an engine rebuild (but these are rare). Most need a lot of fabrication work. Typical cost to buy and restore a class one outfit is £1000. If its something special from the 60's or early 70's expect to spend a lot more!
Try and visit an event such as Shenington in June and talk to other people who restore karts.
Regards,
Mick
