If I go in to buy a new Birel which costs say GBP2,000+VAT, I will pay GBP2,300 including VAT. If ACR offer me GBP500 for my kart as a trade in against it, then I will part with GBP1,800 cash. Unless I'm VAT registered, I cannot charge ACR GBP500+VAT.

So ACR are either offering me GBP500 for my chassis or their offering me GBP575 for it.
