I was told that the reason for their introduction was that the MSA followed the CIK in introducing them because in Europe, where grip is much higher, tyre pressures are run so low that brake discs were hitting the Tarmac under normal cornering.
Is this true?

Incidentally, mine came from eBay for Ł16.99 and is hardly worn at all
