I would imagine the reason the crash tetsed stuff is safer is because they act like airbags in a crash

With the old stuff, the only energy absorbtion came from the deforming of the plastic and served only really to stop locking wheels with another kart

If something hits the crash tested stuff, air cannot escape quickly from them (nose cone has small vent holes, pods have the end caps with the vent holes) and therefore they provide a air cushion effect in an accident

Thats what I would have thought anyways
