Well one of the things Software does is simply inform the timekeeper of the starting positions of the karts across the line at the starts with the gaps between them. VERY few Clerks seem to take notice of this information though and seem to rely on the eyes of the Starter!
I'm NOT talking about attempting to gain an advantage over Grid-2 driver or cause other people to stop altogether before the line. But if "my" engine is "cleaner" when I cross the line then I would expect to gain a small performance advantage over my competitors for perhaps 1/4 or 1/2 a lap where my engine will run "better" than theirs.
I REALLY don't see where the issue is with this. Agreed, in these days of classes with fixed carburation it's less of a big deal, but still in MOST classes, driver control of their engines performance is available by twiddling the "petrol-taps" at all points throughout a track-session, so WHY should a driver not be able to use this to his/her POTENTIAL advantage as they approach the "Go" point?
