The offside ule HAS changed...... only..... not in the rather pathetic game of football.
Hockey seems to be VASTLY more awake to new ideas than any other sport and they ABANDONED the offside rule several years ago. They do EXACTLY what all sports should do, the DELETE rules that don't help the play or lead to perverse results!
The off side rule was supposed to stop goal hanging'..... but..... for WHAT reason? If a team wants to waste a player for 90% of the period of play JUST to hang round the goal mouth..... what HARM to the game does it do? NONE!
Go and watch or PLAY a game of hockey and you'll see that the 'shape of play' hasn't altered ONE FRACTION by geting rid of the HUGELY OUTDATED off-side rule!
Hockey is also innovative in other ways! If you DELIBERATELY hit a ball at an opponents stick so that it ricochets off the pitch (similar to the action seem a MILLION times in the archaic football) then the umpire has the option to let 'advantage' occur or simply award the play to the 'target' of the ball.
You see, Hockey does what WE should do; upDATE the rule book where the rules are a JOKE!
