....getting it wrong. If officials wish to control tyhe speed of the start, they have only one option and that is a pace vehicle. The regs clearly state that in the absence of an official pace vehicle, the speed of the rolling laps is controlled by the pole driver. The only reference to the speed, is that it must be "steady". Providing these requirements are met, officials have no right to penalise a pole driver or give a false start for reasons of speed. They can stick there speed cameras in the same place that the DfT can stick theirs!!
