Sorry about your lad’s accident but hope this helps others,
We have had the same problem but found this sorted the problem
DO NOT DO LOCKING PIN AND NUT UP TIGHT as when the calliper gets hot it expands and brakes the nut off the pin.
Also another point the steering column to steering wheel bolt breaks, so replace this with a high tensile bolt.
