Right hand gearchange in single seaters and sports cars was determined, usually, by running a Hewland gearbox which required the solid gear linkage to connect on the right hand side of the box. I thought lefty saloon cars in the modern era was led by lots of foreign drivers who were used to lhd. I'm right handed but left eye dominant and feel more comfortable in lhd
