We have tested the plastic bumpers on Minikarts and it's quite correct about flexibility improving the handling enough to find a bit of time.

As we've gone from no rear wheel protection to the full plastic bumpers we've added about 1.5kg out on the back. Interestingly enough the feedback from the driver was that the rear grip was better but it was letting go much more quickly and was harder to catch. Exactly as you would expect, what you might call the '911' effect.
