I have never favored the use of the neck brace.
It is noticeable that the lack of head movement available to the driver can actually cause some incidents through simply not seeing another competitor along side.
One junior competitor I was helping last season actually found almost half a second of extra pace simply by removing the restriction of the brace and the improved mobility aiding vision.
