Hi Michael
And welcome!
Ten is a good age to start.
Have a look in this Forum and the one marked 'Chat'. You will find messages from a guy caled 'Ethan' in both forums and all of our replies to him. Very similar applies to ALL 'newbies'.
Obviously, if you can get to Rye House on Sunday, you will get a chance. Find an old skinny bald bloke called Alan Reeves Reynolds and his son. Alan looks like a human 'matchstick': Big Bald head and wizened skinny body! He is the club chairman and you won't find a better, nicer bloke to talk to about starting! He bends over backward to help people! Tell him I sent you and that you were told that he looked like a match stick! He'll send regards back, I have no doubt!
If not, then there is a race at Kimbolton (near Bedford) next weekend and, I suspect, that will be well within the 2 hours from Watford. It's a very different circuit and diferent atmosphere, slightly more 'professional' and ofetwn, more 'competitive'. It'; well worth seeing that race. I am hoping to attend that too. If you canb't make Rye, then there is plenty of time to discuss what you do to attend Kimbolton. Ideally DO BOTH!
This is the IDEAL time to start! All the racing is quieting down (but NOT stopping...... we NEVER stop) for the Winter and many people will be about to sell their gear to buy new for next year. There will be those just growing out of the 'Cadet' class (the class for you) and moving up tp the next one and they will be selling their stuff now or soon.
Anyway. I hope some of this helps. Read the messages to Ethan.
Ian
