Of COURSE they shouldn't affect the children........

However, I STILL believe that, even if they are not GREAT parents, the parents are STILL usually (99% of the time) the best people to look after their OWN kids!

Neil choses to look after HIS kid in HIS way and that's HIS choice! However, it's then BONKERS to suggest that when HE behaves in what seems to be an OTT manner, that CAROLYN gets the blame!

If dad has cost his son a trip to the USA I feel VERY sorry for the son...... but I would not DREAM of interfering with the way THIS dad (and 99% of all OTHER dads) treats his kid! However, it does NOT mean that I have to feel sorry for NEIL if he brings this upon the PAIR of them!

Put simply: Niel should act as HE sees fit to do the BEST for his child, which I am CERTAIN he feels that he HAS done!. However, this time, he may have taught his son two 'lessons':

1) how to stand up for his views
2) that there is a PRICE to pay for having your say! It's a price I have paid MANY times....... probably DESERVEDLY!
