Too late now as he has the stud out ,but,dependant on size of the stud you can get a tool used by plumbers (me ,me,me) for fixing taps and tap backnuts while in situ under the bath. They are self adjusting and can flip over so left or right hand thread can be tightened or slackened have an integral T bar so pretty useful,pay about a fiver for them. Another piece of plumbers kit,instead of heating ,use POLAR FREEZE (liquid nitrogen in a can) use the supplied straw type nozzle to direct the liquid on to the stud and it contracts slightly. Brian
